Help update the interpretive signs at Crescent Harbor

The existing signs on the Sea Walk at Crescent Harbor were made and donated by fisheries experts. They are beautiful and informative, but are now decades old and  faded.

The City and Borough of Sitka is commissioning an update by Anderson Land Planning with contractor Rebecca Poulson. The goal is to update these signs with involvement from the community of Sitka, especially those involved with our fisheries.

The goal is to have five new signs designed, fabricated, and installed in late spring 2026.

Proposed New Sea Walk Signs at Crescent Harbor

Goal of the new sign design

The five current sign topics are: Trolling, Seining, Longlining, Gillnetting, and the value of seafood. The focus is on the importance of commercial fishing to Sitka's and the region's economy.

The proposed update would be to keep the four signs with fishing gear types, with their history, mechanics and context.

The fifth sign would be on Tlingit seafood harvesting, ancient and contemporary.

The proposed theme for the signs overall would be the importance of fishing to Sitka's way of life, identity, and our economy.

The overall design will be made to fit in with existing Sea Walk sign

Posts below will update with draft designs as they are made

Community Involvement

We are looking for ideas and comments from Sitka people, especially those involved in fishing. The goal is that these signs show the public, especially visitors, what we want them to know about our heritage.

Any and all comments wanted, from color and design to things to leave out, ideas for images, ideas for things to include.
